GunnIMS (intramuscular stimulation) is a dry needl

GunnIMS (intramuscular stimulation) is a dry needling technique developed by Dr. Chan Gunn that is used to treat persistent pain of neuropathic origin.

Nerves exiting the spine can become hypersensitive leading to pain and shortened muscles which the irritated nerve controls. Over time this can lead to chronic tendonitis conditions and joint dysfunction.

There is evidence based research on the GunnIMS technique to facilitate effective healing, reduce pain, and improve movement and strength. The GunnIMS theory promotes a holistic assessment looking both at the local site of pain but also following the nerve pathways back up to the spinal column.

The effects of the technique are cumulative and treatment is recommended on a weekly basis. The treatment is done using an acupuncture needle and the intended muscle often exhibits a twitch response - it feels like a muscle grabbing sensation and some soreness can be expected for about a day afterwards.

📣 We are pleased to share that Naythan (PT) has completed his GunnIMS training and now offers the technique as part of his treatment plans along with Kristen and Nicole. 📣

🌲 The Physiotherapy Association of British Colu

🌲 The Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia is partnering with the BC Parks Foundation on a new initiative called PaRx (parks prescription).🌲

The goal is to improve patients’ health by connecting them to nature, and incorporating outdoor experiences into their daily routines. 🌿 This evidence based nature prescription program is recommending 20 minutes of nature time per day, as studies suggest that the most efficient drop in cortisol (stress hormone) happens between the 20-30 min mark. 🌱 Research also shows that people who spend at least 2 hours per week in green spaces report significantly better health and wellbeing. ⛰️

Increasing nature time helps reduce the risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. ❤️ Spending time in nature also has a positive impact on mental health, and can boost memory and creativity. 🌳
